In-Person Therapy

In-person therapy in South End, Charlotte

A lot of therapy moved online these last few years, and for many people that works well. But maybe you want your therapy to be somewhere you go. A quiet office, the same therapist across from you, time that’s yours and nothing else. That’s what our South End office is for: the same therapist each week, 45–50 minutes, in a quiet suite on South Church Street, behind the door with our logo on it.

Why In-Person Therapy Still Matters

Sometimes being in the same room is better

Online therapy is real therapy. We offer it, and for a lot of people it’s the right fit. But there’s something particular about being in the same room as another person: no screen between you, no half-attention, nowhere else the conversation is trying to be. For a lot of what people come in to work on, being there in person is part of what helps.

A quiet, focused space

No phone buzzing in your pocket, no one knocking, nothing else pulling at you while you’re here. It’s a space that exists for one thing, and walking into it is a real break from everything that’s usually competing for your attention.

Easier to feel seen

Some things are easier in person. Your therapist can see how you’re sitting, catch the pause before you say you’re fine, notice the moment something lands. A lot of people find it easier to trust, and to be honest, when they’re in the same room as someone rather than on the other side of a screen.

You don't have to choose

Every therapist here also meets by video. So if you’re slammed, or home with a sick kid, or just can’t get in one week, you can meet online instead. Same therapist, right where you left off. Plenty of people go back and forth, and that’s completely fine.

What to Expect

What coming in actually looks like

01

Getting here

We’re at 1514 South Church Street, Suite 101, in Charlotte’s South End. The LYNX Blue Line’s Bland Street station is about a five-minute walk, and if you’re driving, there’s limited visitor parking at the building and street parking in the surrounding blocks. The entrance is right on South Church Street: look for our logo on the door.

Arriving

Come in a few minutes early; the suite is up one flight of stairs. Our waiting room is private, shared only with our practice, and your therapist will come out to meet you right at your appointment time. If you’re nervous the first visit, that’s completely normal. Most people are, and it usually eases a minute or two into the session.

03

The session

Sessions run about 45–50 minutes, in a private room with a warm, attentive therapist whose only job is to understand what’s going on with you. The first session is mostly you talking about what brought you in and what you’d want to be different. You don’t need a diagnosis, or a plan, or the right words to start. Most people meet weekly at first, and you settle into the right rhythm together from there.

04

Between sessions, and switching

Some weeks coming in just doesn’t work, whether it’s a work crunch, a sick kid, or a day that got away from you. Those weeks, you can meet online instead: same therapist, no paperwork, no starting over. Plenty of people go back and forth between the two, and that works just fine.

Getting Here

Getting to South End

We’re in South End because it’s one of the easiest places in Charlotte to get to. When getting to therapy is simple, it’s easier to keep going, especially in the weeks you’d rather not.

By light rail

The LYNX Blue Line’s Bland Street station is about five minutes away on foot. From Uptown it’s a few minutes south; from Pineville and points south, ride north and you’ll step off almost at our door. The Rail Trail runs through the neighborhood too, if you’d rather walk or bike the last stretch.

Driving & parking

There’s limited visitor parking at the building, and street parking in the surrounding blocks. South End sits just off I-277, a few minutes from Uptown, Dilworth, and Myers Park. And if the drive is a lot that day, you can always meet online instead.

On foot from the neighborhood

If you live or work in South End, Dilworth, or Uptown, we’re a genuine walk, and the Rail Trail passes close by. Plenty of clients come from the office on a long lunch.

Who You'd Work With

The therapists at our South End office

These are the therapists seeing clients in person at our South End office, and every one of them also works by video. Most are taking new clients; when someone’s schedule is full, we’ll tell you and help you find another good fit. Different styles, different specialties, because the right therapist really does depend on you and what you’re working on.

What We Help With

Everything we treat, in person or online

A lot of the people we see are capable, high-functioning adults who’ve hit something their usual ways of coping can’t fix. We pay as much attention to what’s going well in your life as to what’s hard, and we take growth and emotional well-being as seriously as symptom relief. Individual and couples therapy are available at the office, all of it evidence-based and tailored to you.

Anxiety & Stress

Generalized anxiety, social anxiety, panic, and health anxiety, including the high-functioning kind nobody at work can see. Practical coping skills alongside the deeper work.

Couples & Marriage

Marriage counseling and couples therapy for communication, trust repair, and disconnection, in person on one couch or by video from wherever you each are.

Depression & Mood

Depression, low motivation, and grief, including the kind of low that doesn’t always look like depression from the outside.

Trauma & PTSD

Single events, long stretches, and medical trauma, working through what happened so it stops running the show.

Career & Work Stress

Burnout, feeling stuck, life transitions, and the particular Charlotte stress of performing at work and not feeling it.

LGBTQIA+ Affirming

Coming out, identity, relationship challenges, and family dynamics, with affirming therapists who genuinely understand what you’re navigating.

Common questions about coming in

A few practical questions come up more than others when you're meeting in person. Here are the ones new clients ask most.

From Our Practice

You can read every therapist bio in the city and still not know if someone's right for you until you actually meet them. That's normal. It's what a first session is for, and it's the part we care most about getting right.

Why is it so hard to find an in-person therapist right now?
A lot of therapists went fully virtual after 2020 and never came back. We kept an office. We think mental health care benefits from having a place to go, so ours is central to how we work. If your search has been turning up only video links, that’s why in-person help can feel hard to find right now.
Where exactly are you, and how do I get here?
1514 South Church Street, Suite 101, Charlotte, NC 28203, in South End. The LYNX Blue Line’s Bland Street station is about a five-minute walk, and by car we’re just off I-277, a few minutes from Uptown. The entrance is right on South Church Street: look for our logo on the door.
Is there parking?
There’s limited visitor parking at the building, plus street parking in the surrounding blocks. And if parking is ever the thing standing between you and therapy, remember that every one of our therapists also works online.
What happens when I arrive?
Come in a few minutes early and head up the stairs to the suite. Our waiting room is private, shared only with our practice, and your therapist will come out to meet you right at your appointment time. Most people are a little nervous the first visit and settle in within the first few minutes. That’s normal, and your therapist knows it.
Is the office wheelchair accessible?
We want to be straightforward about this: the entrance is at street level, but the suite is up a flight of stairs and the building doesn’t have an elevator, so the office is not wheelchair accessible. Every one of our therapists works by secure video, and fully online care is available: same clinicians, same sessions. If stairs are a concern short of a barrier, tell us when you reach out and we’ll talk through what would help.
How much does therapy cost?
Individual therapy ranges from $230–$250 per session and couples therapy from $245–$280, depending on the clinician. Those are identical to our online rates. We’re an out-of-network practice: you pay at the time of your session, we file the reimbursement claims with your insurance for you, and most clients end up paying roughly $50–$125 per session after reimbursement.
Do you take insurance?
We don’t bill insurance plans directly. Like most private practices, we’re out-of-network, but most plans include out-of-network benefits for mental health care, and we handle the claims paperwork on your behalf. It’s worth checking your out-of-network coverage before your first session.
Can I switch between in-person and online sessions?
Anytime, in either direction. Video when you’re slammed or under the weather, in person when you’d rather be here. It’s the same therapist either way, so there’s nothing to catch anyone up on. One qualifier: if you’ll be taking a video session from outside North Carolina, whether that works depends on where you’ll be and your therapist’s licensure — mention the trip and we’ll confirm before you go. Otherwise, just let your therapist know what works for you that week.
How long and how often are sessions?
Sessions run 45–50 minutes, and most clients meet weekly at the start. Weekly rhythm is part of what makes therapy work, especially early on. As things progress, you and your therapist adjust the rhythm together.
What if I'm not sure what kind of therapy I need?
That’s the normal starting point. Charlotte has hundreds of therapists, so the hard part is less about finding a therapist and more about finding the right one for you. You don’t need a diagnosis or a preferred method; whether cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic work, or something else serves you best is a question we help you answer, and you can gain insight into that in the first session or two. Tell us what’s going on, whether it’s anxiety, depression, a relationship, or one of life’s bigger transitions, and we’ll recommend the therapist whose expertise fits, with appointment times you can see right away.

Reaching out is the hardest part, and you're already doing it.
