What's on your mind?

You don't have to name it perfectly. See if any of these feelings sound familiar.

"I can't stop worrying about things I can't control"

Anxiety & Stress

That constant hum of worry, where your mind runs through every scenario and can't find the off switch. You're not broken. Your nervous system is doing what it thinks will keep you safe. A good therapist helps you understand what's underneath the anxiety and build real coping and stress management skills.

"My relationship feels stuck or disconnected"

Couples & Relationships

When the distance between you isn't about one fight, it's a pattern. You're both there but somehow not reaching each other. Couples counseling isn't about picking sides. It's about understanding what's happening between you — including the communication that keeps breaking down — and finding your way back to each other.

"I go through the motions but nothing feels real"

Depression & Mood

Sometimes depression isn't what you'd expect. It's not always sadness. Sometimes it's numbness, disconnection, going through the motions without feeling much of anything. You're not lazy or ungrateful. Something got disconnected from the rest of your life, and therapy can help you find it again.

"Something happened to me and I can't move past it"

Trauma & PTSD

Trauma doesn't always look like what you'd expect. Sometimes it's a single event. Sometimes it's the slow accumulation of pain that was never addressed. Either way, healing is possible and you don't have to carry it alone.

"I'm successful on paper but miserable in practice"

Career & Work Stress

Charlotte is full of people who look like they have it figured out. Many don't. The gap between who you appear to be and how you actually feel is one of the most common things we work with. Finding balance between professional life and everything else starts with being honest about where you are — and what a fulfilling life would actually look like for you.

"I don't know what's wrong, I just know something is"

Wherever You Are

You don't need a diagnosis to come to therapy. You don't even need to name the problem. A lot of people begin right here, with a feeling that something isn't right and the courage to say it out loud. That's the first step.

A quick welcome from our practice

About Therapy Group of Charlotte

Therapy Group of Charlotte is a private practice of doctoral-level psychologists and licensed therapists in Charlotte's South End, founded in 2021 by the psychologists behind the Therapy Group of DC — and built on the same standards for training, supervision, and thoughtful care. We take mental health seriously without taking ourselves too seriously. Therapy, and counseling in general, should be a safe and supportive environment where you're fully heard, with room for personal growth — where someone pays attention to what you're capable of, not just what's going wrong. That's the kind of care we set out to offer the Charlotte community.

Our therapists train in evidence-based approaches including psychodynamic therapy, CBT, and trauma-informed care — because no single method works for every person or every mental health concern. What we match on is the part research says matters most: the fit between you and your therapist — because that's where positive change tends to start.

From Our Practice

Most people wait years between recognizing something's off and reaching out. The clients who do best aren't the ones who had it figured out. They're the ones who came in before they did.

Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers about starting therapy in Charlotte, NC, what to expect, and what mental health care costs.

Getting Started

Directories like Psychology Today list more than 3,000 licensed therapists and counselors across Charlotte — so the hard part isn't finding one, it's finding the right one. Research on therapy outcomes points to the relationship between you and your therapist as one of the strongest predictors of whether it helps. Our matching process is built around that: tell us what you're going through and how you'd like therapy to feel, and we'll suggest the clinician on our team who fits — rather than leaving you to guess from a directory.

There's no threshold you have to cross. Common reasons people reach out: worry about the future that won't quiet down, feeling flat or disconnected, confidence that's quietly eroded, the same argument on repeat at home, grief that isn't loosening, stress that follows you out of the office, or a vague sense of being stuck. Feelings that don't quite match the moment count too. If something in your life keeps pulling your attention — at work, at home, in your relationships — that's often reason enough — you don't need a crisis, and you don't need a diagnosis, to benefit from real support — and reaching out is usually where hope gets practical.

No. Many of our clients don't have one — they're navigating life transitions, relationship strain, career questions, or feelings they can't quite name yet. Naming things is part of the work, not a prerequisite for it.

Cost & Insurance

Fees vary widely across Charlotte. Ours are straightforward: individual therapy is $230–$250 per session and couples therapy is $245–$280, depending on your therapist. Because many employer health plans reimburse 50–80% of each session once your deductible is met, many of our clients end up paying roughly $50–$125 per session. The full picture — including a five-minute script for checking your own benefits — is on our payment page.

Often, yes — though usually through out-of-network benefits rather than a copay. We're not in-network with any insurance plans; instead, you pay at the time of your session, and we file the reimbursement claim with your insurance electronically on your behalf. We don't offer sliding-scale fees, but for people with out-of-network coverage, reimbursement often brings the real cost down substantially. We also accept HSA and FSA cards.

Our Approach

The titles overlap more than people expect. In North Carolina, a licensed counselor (LCMHC), a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), a licensed marriage and family therapist (LMFT), and a licensed psychologist (PhD or PsyD) can all provide excellent therapy — the license reflects training path more than quality, and it says little about personality or style. Psychologists complete doctoral training, which matters for some concerns. What matters most, for most people, is proper licensure plus the right fit. Our team includes doctoral-level psychologists and licensed therapists, so we can match you on fit rather than on title.

No — we don't run therapy groups. Our practice focuses on individual therapy, couples counseling, and family therapy, because focused, one-on-one attention is what we do best. If group therapy sounds right for you, we're glad to point you toward Charlotte resources that offer it.

Yes. Every therapist on our team offers secure telehealth services and online therapy across North Carolina — the same support, wherever in the state you are — and research has found telehealth as effective as in-person care for many mental health and wellness concerns. Some of our clinicians are also licensed in South Carolina. If you'd rather meet in person, our office is in Charlotte's South End.

About the Practice

We're in South End at 1514 South Church Street, Suite 101, Charlotte, NC 28203 — about five minutes from the Bland Street station on the LYNX Blue Line, with limited visitor parking at the building and street parking nearby. You can reach us at (980) 580-3532.

Then we'd rather know. It's completely acceptable — common, even — to realize after a few sessions that a therapist isn't the right match, and a good practice makes that easy to say. Trust your feelings about the fit; therapy works best when the relationship does, and healing tends to follow fit. The signs of a good fit are concrete: feeling heard, gaining insight into your own patterns, a sense of moving forward. If that isn't happening, tell us — we'll help you find a better fit within our team or refer you beyond it, with honest guidance and no awkwardness.

You've already done the hardest part: thinking about it. The rest starts here.

Curious who's right for you?

Privacy Policy

Therapy Group of Charlotte · Effective August 29, 2026

The short version

  • The only place this website collects personal information is the appointment scheduling assistant — and only what you choose to share there.
  • We use two analytics tools to understand what gets read: Google Analytics (which sets this site’s only cookies) and Ahrefs Analytics (which sets none). Neither is connected to advertising.
  • We don’t run ad trackers, social media pixels, or remarketing. We don’t sell or share your information for advertising. There are no forms quietly collecting your details.
  • Questions, or want something corrected or deleted?

What this policy covers

This policy covers this website — therapistsincharlotte.com. It is not the privacy notice for therapy itself: if you become a client, your care is protected by federal and state health-privacy law, and you’ll receive our Notice of Privacy Practices as part of getting started. Nothing you read or click on this website creates a therapy relationship.

What we collect, and why

What you send us. If you email us, call us, or use the scheduling assistant (the “Make Appointment” button), we receive what you choose to share — typically your name, contact details, and what you’re looking for. We use it for exactly one purpose: responding to you and arranging care. The scheduling assistant is operated for us by WithTherapy, our scheduling provider, and the information you enter there goes to our practice and to the systems we use to manage appointments.

How the site gets used. Like most websites, we use analytics to understand which pages people read and where visitors come from — that’s how we decide what to write next. Google Analytics sets this site’s only cookies (named _ga and _ga_G2Y06NQKJV) and collects usage data such as pages visited, approximate location, and device type. We have Google’s advertising and cross-site features turned off. Ahrefs Analytics collects similar aggregate usage data and sets no cookies at all.

Accessibility preferences. The accessibility widget (accessiBe) lets you adjust how the site displays. If you use it, it stores your display preferences in your browser so they hold between visits.

What we don’t do

  • No advertising trackers, conversion pixels, or social media buttons.
  • No remarketing — we will never follow you around the internet.
  • No selling, renting, or sharing your information for advertising, ever.
  • No comment forms, pop-up surveys, or newsletter capture.
  • Reading about a topic here tells us nothing about who you are — analytics reaches us as aggregate counts, not identified people.

Your choices and rights

You can browse this site without providing any personal information at all. If you have shared something with us — through the scheduling assistant, by email, or by phone — you can ask us what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to . We’ll respond to reasonable requests promptly. Deletion requests may be limited where health-record or other law requires us to retain information.

Security and children

We use standard protections — encrypted connections (HTTPS) everywhere, and reputable providers for hosting and scheduling — and we limit what we collect in the first place, which is the best protection there is. This website is meant for adults and is not directed at children under 13; we don’t knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

When this policy changes, we’ll update it here and change the effective date at the top. We won’t quietly expand what we collect.
